Rotate to the New: Data Stewardship | Data Analytics | Data Science
The Life Sciences industry has been under pressure to develop innovative medicines, demonstrate differentiated value to patients, providers, and payers and at the same time optimize R&D costs and speed up time to market to maximize return on investment. As the industry traverses through this journey of ‘Rotate to the New’, to improve the performance of today’s R&D model, many companies are already making the shift to adopt digital technologies. As companies look to apply these technologies either individually or in combination to perform operational activities – Data Stewardship, Data Analytics and Data Science take a center stage as quintessential elements and attributes.
Data Stewardship: Data processing in Clinical Operations has become increasingly complex in recent years with more sophisticated clinical trial designs, complex outsourcing models and the expansion of new technologies for collecting and processing patient data. The complexity is further set to magnify and it is imperative that data-driven operations are adequately managed to ensure that companies have the right kind of oversight and accountability across the life cycle of any data processing operation. In today’s context, there is an ever increasing expectation from regulators, payers and patients that companies are confident about meeting high standards around data integrity, quality and security.
Data Analytics: Big data analytics has the potential to transform the way life sciences organizations use sophisticated technologies to gain insights from their clinical and other data repositories to make informed decisions. Analytics allow organizations to investigate and explore data to identify relationships, trends, and patterns to reveal insights that, when combined with business context, create knowledge. In future, the implementation & use of big data analytics will help life science industry to make better informed & faster decisions.
Data Science: With the change in clinical development landscape, Data Management no more remains a relevant term. There is a lot of focus on ‘Data Science’ as a stream which is a culmination of data discovery, collection, cleaning, management, analytics, insights, quality, integrity and governance. With Data Science catching up relevance, it is imperative to focus on upskilling our workforce to be prepared for changing requirements of the new!
