CLINI INDIA is proud to honor the extraordinary contributions of clinical researchers around the world as we celebrate International Clinical Trials’ Day.
Each year, the International Clinical Trials’ Day is celebrated around the world on or near the 20th of May in order to celebrate the day that James Lind started his famous trial on the 20th of May 1747.
May 20 is the recognized date for organizations, clinical research professionals, and the public to acknowledge the life changing achievements that result from the work performed by clinical researchers.
The first recorded clinical trial occurred in 1747 when James Lind, a Scottish naval surgeon, investigated treatments for sailors with scurvy. He divided the sailors into pairs and gave each pair a different treatment. Lind observed that the sailors who received two oranges and a lemon every day recovered remarkably well.
Dr. Lind published his findings and eventually went on to teach at a university. The British Navy began to send its sailors out to sea with a supply of limes to prevent scurvy and earning the sailors the nickname “limeys”.
